Coach Mark Bottrill's blog:

100% best times were registered by our squad today. We have been advocating getting up early and taking a hot shower, dressing warm and then drinking either hot water or tea to raise the core temperature of the body. To a large degree I have witnessed better awareness going to the pool as a result.

Kathy Qu started the morning in a straight seeded heat and rocked to the 100 in a clear lead. She still had the lead to the last stroke but was out touched by a couple 100ths. Best time 2:07.96.

Vanessa Hanbury was up later in the last straight seeded heat and performed the same strategy claiming an early lead that she would not relinquish. Best time at 2:06.38 for 24th overall.

Both women moved up considerably on their rankings.

Next was Andre Kudaba in the 200 fly. He drew the first seeded heat and was solid in his swimming all the way through to finish at a best time by a bit at 2:06.49. Better turns would have helped him get to the B final. As it stands he is 19th.

Up right away was Drew Christensen who blew apart his Canadian Record to go a best time by 6 plus seconds finishing in 2:38.12 which places him 10th in the world at this point.

Mike Cai finished the morning with a 2 second best time but not enough to advance to the finals. It was a 17&u Club Record of 2:24.32.  This turn of events knocks Mike back out of the World Youth team at this point. He is now going to have to work the 200 IM on the last day to ensure he has a spot on this team.

Tonight we look forward to the swim off for the men’s 100 Back from yesterday plus Drew taking another run at his 200 IM record.
