World Youth Champs - Day 1:

By: NJ - Jul. 08, 2008

On Day 1 of the Fina World Youth Champs in Mexico, Michael Cai has comfortably placed himself into the semi-finals of the 100m Breaststroke with a 7th place finish.  His time of 1:03.37 is less than 1/2 second of not only the top ranked time in the meet, but also the BC Provincial Record set by Olympian Matt Huang in 1996.

Cai also broke 4, yes 4...!, team records with the swim.  His 50m split was under the 50m Breaststroke record for both 17&u boys and Senior men.  And his 100m time also broke both giving him a quad of records to his name in 1 race!  He will have up to 2 more chances to lower those standards, and go after the BC record, with the semis and possibly finals still to come.
