Day 2 finals saw Michael Cai debut as a National Finalist. After qualifying 7th in both the 100 Breast and the 400 IM Mike raced to 4th in both events. While a bit off his previous best in the 100 Breast (recent BC Record swim in Mexico) Mike was in the race the entire way to finish a stroke cycle back of the podium. Less than 10 minutes later he was back at it again in the 400 IM and put himself in the top half of the field the entire way. He finished strongly to place a solid 4thin a new 17&u Boys Club Record of 4:31.50. Both of these swims are sure locks on the Junior Pan Pac team which is selected from this meet.
Yesterday Andre Kudaba had his chance in the B final with a real strong 200 Fly preliminary swim that placed him 11th. Andre was out first at the 100 in 58.6 and slowly the field came back to him as he finished 3rd in the Club Record. Kathy Qu continued her strong run at steady improvement at National events as she smashed her BT in 200 fly to finish 23rd overall. She was just shy of the club record by .07. Day 2 Prelims resulted in those extra 1/10ths of seconds as Kathy had a break through in the 50 fly. She went 29.44, which is a new Club Record for 17&u Girls. Also up for her was the 100 Free with a BT of 59.86.
Vanessa Hanbury improved on her AAA swims to go to 59.50 in the 100 Free. Shannon Garrett had a nice effort in the 1500 Free to reel in several swimmers to finish 5th in the final and 12th overall.
After two days of finals we are sitting 21st overall in the points.
