Olympic Way Black
The fourth level of programming in our swim club. Here swimmers are able to swim the all the four competitive swim strokes well for a goal time of 3:30.00 for 200 IM, progressing to longer distances. The main focus in this level is improving athlete's ability to swim the four competitive strokes as well as advance their fitness level. These swimmers also continue to refine the competitive starts and turns for each of the four strokes. The concept of training is advanced upon from the concepts taught at the OW White level.
Our objective for the swimmers in this group is to continue the FUN aspect in every practice session started at the grassroots level. We also advance each swimmer's stroke technique, swimming speed, and overall fitness.
Pre-requisites:
Completed all lessons at local pool and 10 years or under
I Can Swim Stage 3
Completion of Olympic Way White program
Minimum age 8 to maximum of 11 or an assessment from the Hyack coach
Swimmers’ Commitment and Goals:
- Attend all practices.
- Attend as many of the camps, Novice or other meets, and social events as possible. There is usually 1 meet every 4-5 weeks.
- Have Fun!
- Aim for 3:20.00 200 IM.
Team Gear and Equipment Requirements:
Practice: Swimsuit (boys – jammers or briefs, no shorts), goggles, cap (especially girls with long hair), flippers, pull buoy, athletic shoes and clothes for dry-land.
Competition: Hyack Team Suit, Hyack Team T-shirt, Hyack Cap, Team ‘Hoodie’
Parents’ Commitment:
- Arrange to have your swimmer attend all practices and as many of the other offered camps and events as possible.
- Contact your coach to let them know if your swimmer may miss a practice or event.
- Stay informed by reading and responding to: website, email, and as always, talk to your child's coach.
- Parent Participation Program continues. Assist with timing at mini-meets, get involved with other events through the year.

Regional
Hyack Competitive Groups : Regional
Regional
The swimmers in this group are the top 12 & under swimmers in our club! Regional is an expansive level of programming for our swimmers. Here, they are exposed to a higher level of training and competition. This group is the cornerstone for our young athletes.
They will compete around the Lower Mainland and occasionally elsewhere in BC (special Team Meet or BC Championship meets). The swimmers are able to swim the four competitive swim strokes well for medium to longer distances.
The main focus in this level is improving athlete's ability to swim the four competitive strokes for longer distances as well as advance their fitness level. These swimmers also continue their refining of the competitive starts and turns for each of the four strokes. The concept of training is advanced upon from the concepts taught at the development level.

Pre-requisites: Completion of Aqua-quest 12; Swim kids 10; I Can Swim Stage 3 or Coaches assessment; Completion of Olympic Way Black Program'; Ages: 8-12
Swimmers’ Commitment and Goals:
- Attend all practices. Always attend Saturday morning practices. Try to attend any special or bonus practices available.
- Attend as many camps, swim meets, and social events as possible. There is usually 1 meet every 3-4 weeks.
- Compete at LMR Champs, and BC Provincials. The BC Provincial time standards in your age groups are your goals.
- Commit to attend all Hyack hosted meets, commit to attend the full Tier 1 Championships should you qualify.
- Have Fun!
Parents’ Commitment:
- Arrange to have your swimmer attend all practices and as many of the other offered camps and events as possible. You are highly encouraged to initiate carpooling with other parents in the group or similar group schedule at this stage.
- Contact your coach to let them know if your swimmer may miss a practice or event.
- Stay informed by reading and responding to: emails, website. Communicate with your swimmer’s coach on a regular basis via email, post-practice chat, or scheduled meeting.
- Parent Volunteer Program continues. Assist with timing at LMR and Invitational meets, start your training to become a Meet Official, get involved with other events through the year.

LMR 1 - New Westminster

LMR -1 - New Westminster
Age range for the swimmers in this group are 11-15 who are under 3:45 minutes for the 200 IM. The group trains 3 times per week and features advanced training for the swimmers to achieve the next level of time standards. The focus for competition are the LMR Regional meets and local invitational meets that have the appropriate time standards for entry. It is expected that the swimmers in this group strive to achieve movement to the Provincial 13&U/13& O groups. Swimmers will age out of the group when they turn 15 if the criteria for the next groups have not been met.
Minimum commitment criteria for this group includes attendance at practice and all the competitions offered. As the group has a capacity and new swimmers are always moving ahead, swimmers in this group will be assessed on attendance and meet commitments. Swimmers falling short will be given a probationary period to uphold their commitment standards or will be removed from the group.

13 & Under Provincial

13 & Under Provincial
The Hyack Swim Club has had a successful Age-group program for many, many years. Our swimmers are consistently among the best in the Province, are ranked Nationally, and are the cornerstone of our High Performance Senior National group.
Overview: Provincial is for athletes who have graduated from our Regional program. Here, swimmers are able to swim the four competitive swim strokes well at all distances.
The focus in this level is improving athlete's ability to swim the four competitive strokes for longer distances as well as advance their fitness level in order for them to progress into the next group (Age Group Development). These swimmers also continue their refining of the competitive starts and turns for each of the four strokes. Concepts such as nutrition, mental skills acquisition, and energy systems are taught to the athletes in this group.
Our objective for the swimmers in this group is to begin to excel at the provincial level both at regional and provincial level competitions. Exposure to inter-provincial competition begins and travel competitions become part of the program. Every swimmer graduating this program will be able to swim every event and perform each stroke proficiently. We also advance each swimmer's stroke technique, swimming speed, and overall fitness. Athletes in this group are expected to begin to approach the sport of swimming as their primary activity and are able to attend all scheduled practice sessions and competitions (including training camps) without having interference from commitments to other sports. The importance and appreciation of following the training program and evolving one's fitness levels becomes apparent.
Pre-requisites:
Graduation from Regional (minimum age 11 to maximum of 13)
11&u or 13&u Swim BC standards are performance levels recommended for entry into the group.
Coach’s assessment.
Swimmers’ Commitment and Goals:
1. Attend minimum 90% of practices, always attend Saturday morning practice, always attend other morning practices.
2. Aim for Swim BC and Age Group National standards in your age group.
3. Commit to attend all camps, swim meets, and social events on your schedule. It is expected that you will commit to the seasonal Meet Schedule as outlined at the start of each season, SC and LC.
4. Commit to attend the highest level of meet you qualify for during the season. It is expected that you will prepare in advance to compete at the BC Divisional / Provincial Championships and the Canadian Age Group Nationals should you qualify.
5. Show a desire to train, compete, and excel at the Provincial level! Show a desire to set personal and team goals, and to consistently improve. Aim to advance to the Youth National group.
6. Have Fun!
Parents’ Commitment:
1. Arrange to have your swimmer attend all practices and as many of the other offered camps and events as possible. You are highly encouraged to initiate carpooling with other parents in the group or similar group schedule at this stage.
2. Contact your coach to let them know if your swimmer may miss a practice or event.
3. Stay informed by reading and responding to: emails, website. Communicate with your swimmer’s coach on a regular basis via email, post-practice chat, or scheduled meeting.
4. Parent volunteer requirement program continues. Assist with timing at Invitational meets, further your Officials qualifications, get involved with other events through the year. Consider volunteering for a position on the Hyack Board of Directors.

Practice: Swimsuit (boys – jammers or briefs, no shorts), goggles, cap (especially girls with long hair), flippers, pull buoy, paddles, snorkel, band, mesh-bag, water bottle, athletic shoes and clothes for the fall and spring.
Competition: Hyack Team Suit (aqua blade option recommended), Hyack Team T-shirt x2, Hyack “Meet” Cap, Team ‘Hoodie’
Practice Info:
5 x per week. Practices range in time and focus to include 15 minutes of dry-land and 1-1.15 hours of swimming depending on the day. At this level of swimming, there are periods of time where more or less may be on the schedule due to many factors including but not limited too: the time of season, holidays, competition schedule, camp opportunities, age of swimmers, etc.
13& Over Provincial
Hyack Competitive Groups : 13& Over Provincial
13+ Provincial
Age range for the swimmers in this group is 13-17 and who are under 3:15 minutes for the 200 IM. Swimmers may be split by gender or age (as an example 13-14 and 15-17) depending on group homogony and training dynamic and may adjust depending on how the season progresses.
The group trains 5 times per week. The goal of the group is for swimmers to achieve qualification at the BC Divisional Championship Level then work toward qualification for the BC Provincial Championships. The focus competitions are the LMR Regional meets, local invitational meets and Divisional Championship meets. Swimmers will need to have the appropriate time standards for entry at these competitions.
A minimum commitment criterion for this group includes attendance at practice and all the competitions offered. As the group has a capacity and new swimmers are always moving ahead, swimmers in this group will be assessed on attendance and meet commitments. Swimmers falling short will be given a probationary period to uphold their commitment standards or will be removed from the group.

Age Group Development

Age Group Development
The athletes in this program have a desire to achieve the Age Group National Standard and beyond. They have the desire to excel at the BC Provincial standard level. Athletes in this group may have organized their schedules at school to attend early group practice times. Athletes in this group are expected to be dedicated to achieve their maximum potential. This includes complete commitment to the competition and training camp calendar as set by the Group Coach, as well as the ability to manage school commitments without significant and ongoing misses to the training program. Training occurs six days a week including water, weights, and daily dry-land sessions. Athletes here learn to master how to train efficiently and effectively on a consistent basis. Mastering skills is an on-going part of the daily routine.
Our objective for the swimmers in this group is to excel at the provincial and national level (BC Age Group, Western, Age National level). Race strategies and tactics are refined at this level both in the practice and competition environment.
Pre-requisite: BC standard, 12-17 years of age.
Swimmers’ Commitment and Goals:
- Attend minimum 90% of practices, always attend morning practice.
- Aim for Age Group National standards in your age group.
- Commit to attend all camps, swim meets, and social events on your schedule. It is expected that you will commit to the seasonal Meet Schedule as outlined at the start of each season, SC and LC.
- Commit to attend the highest level of meet you qualify for during the season. It is expected that you will prepare in advance to compete at the BC “AAA” Championships and the Canadian Age Group Nationals should you qualify.
- Show a desire to train, compete, and excel at the Provincial level! Show a desire to set personal and team goals, and to consistently improve. Aim to advance to the Youth National group.
- Have Fun!

HP National

HP National
The athletes in this program have achieved National standards or have the Age National standard or are BC Provincial standard 16& Over finalists and have proven training and academic requirements.
Athletes in this group are expected to be totally dedicated to achieve their maximum potential. This includes complete commitment to the competition and training camp calendar as set by the Director of Swimming, as well as the ability to manage school commitments without significant and on going misses to the training program. Training occurs six days a week including water, weights, and daily dry-land sessions. Athletes here learn to master how to train efficiently and effectively on a consistent basis. Mastering skills is an on-going part of the daily routine.
Our objective for the swimmers in this group is to excel at the national level (Age National and Senior National level). The program prepares the athletes to compete at the highest Domestic level and achieve performances which enable them to be selected to various provincial and national team competitions. Race strategies and tactics are refined at this level both in the practice and competition environment.
Practices: 8 x per week
Pre-requisite: Graduation from the Age Group Development program, or application for membership by athlete, approval of Director of Swimming. (minimum age 12 female and 13 male to university age). School and academics must not be an issue in this group. It is expected that swimmers will be at workout and also manage to balance academics. Swimmers who have a challenge meeting expectations in this area may be re-directed to the Age Group Development group.
Swimmers’ Commitment and Goals:
- To work consistently towards achievement of Senior National standard, top 16 at Senior Nationals and beyond.
- Ensure lifestyle choices support the ability to attend workout regularly and perform at the required level.
- Ensure school is not an issue.
- Be punctual.
- Commit to meet calendar and training camps as required.
Parents’ Commitment:
- Commit to the yearly meet and camp calendar as set by the Director of Swimming.
- Plan and budget ahead for all competitions and training camps.
- Respect practice start times and be punctual driving swimmers to the pool.
- Ensure swimmers have the appropriate gear as required.
Practice Info:
- Be Punctual and attend all practices.
- Be ready to train and work towards the Top 16 and beyond. This is the top group in the club and the swimmers inside it have a responsibility to be ready to work hard.
- There are various forms of training each day, be prepared with the appropriate gear to do each type of workout properly.
